A two-car collision injured eight people Thursday morning, hospitalizing four of them, when one vehicle crashed into scaffolding on the Upper East Side.
What Happened: A Ford Explorer and BMW sedan collided at Madison Avenue and East 85th Street around 5:45 a.m., with the BMW wedging under scaffolding in front of 1146 Madison Avenue between East 85th and East 84th streets, according to FDNY officials. The Ford Explorer ended up in the crosswalk.
By the Numbers: Eight people were evaluated for injuries at the scene, per FDNY officials. Four patients were transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center on East 67th Street with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while four others refused medical attention at the scene.
What They’re Saying: “There was one car, I don’t know which, that was going the wrong way on Madison Avenue, and the other car came on 85th Street, so he was going the wrong way and passed the traffic light and hit the other car. I think the one driving the wrong way was the Ford,” a witness said on Citizen.
Questions Remain: The cause of the crash has not been revealed, Citizen notes.
