UES Pharmacy Sells $50k Powerball Winner, Continuing Neighborhood’s Luck

A $50,000 Powerball ticket sold at an Upper East Side pharmacy marks the latest in a series of big lottery wins for the lucky Manhattan neighborhood.

A $50,000 Powerball ticket was sold at an Upper East Side pharmacy for Wednesday’s drawing, marking another lottery win for the neighborhood known for producing lucky tickets.

Driving the News: The third-prize winning ticket was sold at Nucare Pharmacy & Surgical, located at 1789 1st Ave. between East 92nd and 93rd streets in Yorkville, according to SILive.

By the Numbers: The July 16 drawing featured winning numbers 4, 21, 43, 48, and 49. The jackpot reached $266 million with a cash value of $120.8 million, though no one claimed the top prize, per The Multi-State Lottery Association, which operates Powerball.

The Big Picture: This win continues the Upper East Side’s streak of lottery luck. In March 2024, Peoples Place Gourmet Deli on Second Avenue between East 72nd and East 73rd streets sold a $1 million Powerball ticket, the New York Post reports.

Zoom In: The March winner’s ticket was worth exactly $1,000,004 as a second-prize winner. The deli had previously sold winning tickets worth $7,500 and $2,000 in January 2024, the New York Post notes.

State of Play: Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available seven days a week at New York Lottery retailers. Players must purchase tickets by 10 p.m. for the 11 p.m. drawings held Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, SILive explains.
