York Club Fitness will bring a luxury gym experience to the Upper East Side, taking over the former New York Health & Racquet Club space at 1433 York Avenue in Lenox Hill, according to Commercial Observer.
Why It Matters: The 13,176-square-foot fitness center represents a revival of a storied fitness location that went dark in 2020 when New York Health & Racquet Club permanently closed due to pandemic-related shutdowns, per tenant broker Meridian Retail Leasing.
The Price Tag: York Club Fitness signed a 10-year lease at an asking rent of $500,000 per year for the space between East 76th and East 77th streets, Commercial Observer reports.
Zoom In: The gym spans three levels at the base of Pan Am Equities’ seven-story residential building – the ground floor, second floor, and basement. The space comes fully built out for modern fitness use.
What They’re Saying: “We’re proud to bring life back to this storied fitness destination,” said Noam Aziz of Meridian, according to Commercial Observer. “Health and wellness are no longer niche interests. They’ve become an essential part of how New Yorkers live.”
By the Numbers: The first 200 members will pay $129 down and $119 per month for 24-hour access to the facility, per the gym’s Instagram.
The Big Picture: York Club Fitness comes from the owners of Synergy Fitness, a discount gym with an Upper East Side location at 1781 2nd Avenue between East 92nd and 93rd streets in Yorkville.
What’s Next: The gym will feature men’s and women’s locker rooms, sauna, steam room, indoor pool, personal training, group fitness classes, cardio and strength equipment, spa, wellness center, and juice bar. Signups begin August 1st, 2025, with the gym opening in the first quarter of 2026.
