NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch sold her Upper East Side duplex for $10.5 million, taking a 20% price cut from the original $13 million asking price.
The Big Picture: The 4,000-square-foot co-op on East 79th Street with Central Park views closed on August 12, marking the end of Tisch’s 13-year ownership of the luxury property, per city register records reviewed by Crain’s New York Business.
By the Numbers: Tisch and her husband Dan Levine purchased the four-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom apartment from her parents, James and Merryl Tisch, for $8 million in 2011, public records show, according to Crain’s. Despite the price reduction, they netted a $2.5 million profit.
Zoom In: The duplex features a living room with gas fireplace, formal dining room, and sweeping Central Park views. It was first listed in March 2024.
What’s New: The buyer is Jonathan Berger, co-founder and CEO of TP Birch Grove, a Hudson Yards-based asset management firm, Crain’s reports. He paid cash for the unit.
State of Play: The Tisch family controls Loews, a global conglomerate with holdings including hotels, property insurers, theaters, and natural gas companies, Crain’s New York explains.
Between the Lines: The sale comes as Tisch, a Harvard-educated scion of one of New York’s wealthiest families, settles into her role as the City’s 48th police commissioner. She previously served as sanitation commissioner from 2022 to 2024.
