Bravo Star’s Former UES Townhouse Becomes Sober Living Facility

The transformation of 'Real Housewives' alum's old Upper East Side townhouse into a sober living facility has left neighbors shocked.

Sonja Morgan’s former Upper East Side townhouse has been transformed into a sober living facility, shocking the Bravo star and her former neighbors.

Why It Matters: The conversion of the five-story property, located at 162 East 63rd Street between Lexington and 3rd avenues, into an addiction treatment center, is causing significant concern among Upper East Side residents who fear it could impact property values and neighborhood character, Page Six reports.

Catch Up Quick: Morgan, a former star of the series Real Housewives of New York, sold the townhouse she once shared with J.P. Morgan scion John Adams Morgan for $4.5 million in 2024, after initially listing it for $11 million in 2019, according to Page Six. The buyer allegedly told Morgan he planned to live there with his wife.

What They’re Saying: “There are so many different people going in and out, at first we didn’t know what was going on. Several neighbors have been talking about it, even the doormen,” one local told Page Six. Another neighbor noted: “When you walk by the [window to the] foyer, there is a shoe rack with tons of shoes, now it all makes sense.”

The Big Picture: The situation has become a neighborhood issue, with one resident who recently listed their townhouse worried the facility might affect their sale price, per Page Six. An insider called it “a disappointment” for people walking their dogs daily, while another local declared: “The house is like Grand Central! Sonja should move back.”

Between the Lines: Morgan revealed a rehab had previously approached her about converting the property into a treatment center, but she declined, Page Six notes. “I couldn’t do that to my neighbors,” the RHONY alum said, adding “The residents association wouldn’t have been too happy about it.”

What’s Next: The facility has not responded to requests for comment about the its operations, according to Page Six.
