Restaurateur Massimo Lusardi is expanding his Upper East Side empire with a new establishment at 1492 Second Avenue between East 77th and 78th streets.
Why It Matters: Lusardi’s In Tune Hospitality continues to dominate the block, adding a fifth establishment to his portfolio that already includes Uva, Uva Next Door, Key & Heels, and the recently opened Nightly’s, Upper East Site was first to report.
Catch Up Quick: The space was formerly home to Mighty Quinn’s, which closed in August after a decade-long run at the location. Lusardi’s father opened the original Lusardi’s restaurant next door at 1494 Second Avenue in 1982.
State of Play: The younger Lusardi’s attorney met virtually with Community Board 8’s Street Life Committee on Tuesday evening to discuss its liquor license application, which received unanimous approval from those present.
By the Numbers: The new, unnamed restaurant will feature 17 tables accommodating 50 diners, plus 15 bar seats, according to the restaurateur’s lawyer.
What’s Next: The former Mighty Quinn’s space will undergo only aesthetic changes rather than structural renovations, Lusardi’s representative told the committee.
